Meath Skills Database: 1st Report (May 2005)

The first report reveals an extraordinary breadth of experience and skills in Meath's labour force, coupled with a strong desire to end commuting by finding work locally.Meath Skills Database: Report now available
In the four months since the launch of this website last December, over 1,700 people who want to work locally in Meath in order to avoid their daily commuting have registered their details with us. This number represents around 10% of the total commuting population.
Based on these registrations received in the first four months, we have prepared a report on the Meath Skills Database. Entitled "Hidden Resources: The Meath Skills Database" this report profiles the experience and skills that are available to a business which chooses to set up in a Meath location. Some Headline results in the report are:
- there is an extremely strong wish on the part of commuters to obtain work locally to restore their work-life balance;
- 42% of the database are employed in IT, Software and Financial Services;
- 76% of the database are aged under 35 and over two-thirds are earning up to €45,000;
- Every level of seniority, from Chief Executive to General Operative, is represented on the database;
- People on the database hold extensive professional qualifications and language skills.
